Place n Show

Pics don't have to be of the Winner to be great. A lot of times the Winner is being hand ridden to the wire several lengths in the clear ,while the rest of the Field are still racing and fighting for the Place and Show money.

A pic of a lone horse going on to win can be great, especially on a bright sunny day and you've got nice colourful Silks or covered in dirt after closing from behind, but you can't beat a pic of two or three horses side by side coming down the Stretch fighting to the Wire.

#3 "Henry West" and #4 "Spice Trader" both get off to a quick start but can't hang on to the lead.

I don't get shots from this angle very often. I love the way it shows a horse on the outside moving quickly to the lead and looking for room on the inside. #6 "Bank Emblem" broke quickly took the lead and goes on to win.

This is one of those nice surprises you occasionally get when taking pics. After taking this shot I was cursing , knowing I had missed the shot of #3 "Unspoken Thoughts" not realizing that what I got instead was a Great pic of Mario Gutierrez on "Lady Shogun" passing "Unspoken Thoughts" and going on to win. Enlarge the pic and you can see the confidence on Mario's face , he knows he is going to win.

It's getting close to the time of the Year when the pics are running out , and I'll have to start using some Standardbred pics to get me through till April. Unlike previous years , I managed to save some of My Favourite Pics of the Year till now. This week will be some of the Best pics and some Lucky Ones where I missed what I wanted , and got something more interesting instead.

I really like this shot of #6 "Victim of Love" showing apprentice Jockey Stephanie Fedora at work early in the race , up in the irons , smooth ,quiet just letting her Horse run. Stephanie Fedora is progressing nicely as an Apprentice , finishing 7th in the Jockey Standings .
