Another Spill

Only a week after April Friesen's accident there was another spill on the weekend. In Sunday's 5th race 2 Horses went down.The 7 Horse "Four Valor" was cut off by the 8 Horse "Northern Intent" both horse and jock , Justin Jensen went down , the 11 Horse "Cousin Vern" with Dave Wilson riding , tripped over "Four Valor" and also went down. The 8 Horse "Northern Intent" went on to win the race but was DQ'd for causing the accident.

April Friesen

April Friesen after the 6th race on "Fine as Feathers".

This was a couple of races before her accident.

Hopefully she'll make a full recovery.

Dangers of Racing

There was a nasty 3 horse spill in Sat Afternoon's 8th race.The 5 horse "Superior Straits" with Frank Fuentes riding , drifted out taking down the 8 horse "Seliman" with Ismael Mosquiera up and the 9 "Willie Katchem" with Isaias Cardenas riding .Both those Jocks and Horses were okay. April Friesen was not so lucky. April , who was making a comeback after being away for a couple of years was riding "Market Flair" when the 2 Horses in front of her went down , she had no where to go. Her Horse went down face first slamming her into the dirt. Last I heard she was in serious condition with a broken back , broken ribs , punctured lungs.
This highlights how extremely dangerous horse racing can be , and those of us who get their thrills and entertainment from watching the races really should appreciate that the Jockeys put their lives on the line every time they get on that Horse. Lets all think positive thoughts for April and hope she has a full and speedy recovery.

Gonna change things this year. Instead of posting action pics at the end of the week on Fri. I will , whenever possible , post an action pic on Monday of the previous weekend's races.

This is "Dancing Allstar" with Pedro Alvarado riding . Early leader of "The Brighouse Belles" on Sunday. Back on her home track where she started her racing career winning 5 of her first 6 , I think , now she spends most of her time back east at Woodbine only coming back here to try pick up occasional Stakes Purses. Didn't work this time after getting a nice start , "BC Cat" moved up , started pushing the pace but both tired and dropped back. Lightly raced 4 yo "Concert Music" won the race , continuing her perfect career , 4 - 0 with 2 Allowance and 2 Stakes wins. She keeps getting better every time out and she beat some pretty good horses here.Hopefully the owners will keep her here for awhile and resist the call of more money back east or down south.
